02 - Applications
Where AtoN House Nordic equipment is used
Every aid to navigation is specified for its position: the light character and range required by the marking plan, the exposure of the site, the power available and the monitoring the operator needs. These are the situations we work with most often.
Harbor entrances and fairways
Range and sector lights guide vessels along the approach, LED lanterns such as the Nova-65 mark the breakwater heads, and racons make the entrance identifiable on ship radar in poor visibility. Beacons on piers and moles complete the marking of the approach.
Buoyage in channels and coastal waters
Rotomoulded FLC navigation buoys with IALA colours moulded into the hull, spar buoys and BEA marker buoys carry solar lanterns such as the MCL 360. NaviGuard connects the lanterns to Emiko for remote monitoring of status, alarms and power.
Bridges, offshore sites and wind farms
Fixed structures need lights with the right divergence and range, radar identification and monitoring that works far from shore. MarineGuard combines a modular mast from 2 to 40 m, a lantern or beacon, power supply and remote monitoring in one configured installation.
Fishing, aquaculture and work areas
ML series marker lights mark nets, mooring lines and aquaculture installations, the AQ-4 MkII strobe marks personnel and equipment, and virtual AIS buoys mark temporary work areas and channels without deploying a physical buoy.
03 - How we work
From marking plan to a monitored aid to navigation
Vikingegaarden supplies, installs and services aids to navigation from Denmark. A typical project runs through five steps.

Specify
We review the marking plan, the site exposure and the available power, and confirm the approval requirements for the selected project.
- 02
Configure
Light character, range, colour, mounting and power are configured for each mark, with monitoring where the operator needs it.
- 03
Install
Our team installs, connects and tests the equipment on site, or supports your own crew with documentation and commissioning.
- 04
Monitor
Lantern status, battery voltage and buoy position can be followed in the Emiko platform, with alarms when a mark drifts or fails.

Service
Spare parts, replacement lanterns and support for the whole service life, including fleet-wide overviews for coastal authorities.

Frequently asked questions about aids to navigation
Which lantern should I choose for a buoy?
For buoys and other positions without external power, a self contained solar lantern such as the MCL 360 is the usual choice: the solar cells form the body of the unit and the range is up to 11 nautical miles. Where mains or battery power is available, an externally powered lantern such as the Nova-65 offers vertical divergence options from 5 to 30 degrees.
What is a racon and when is it needed?
A radar beacon, or racon, answers a ship radar with a programmed Morse code so the structure or hazard can be identified on the radar display. It is used where visual marking alone is not enough, for example at harbor entrances, bridges and offshore structures in poor visibility. The HEKLEO 2 XS covers both the X band and the S band.
Can existing buoys and lanterns be monitored remotely?
Yes. NaviGuard connects the lanterns, racons and radar beacons at a site to Emiko, where status, alarms, power data and available position data are monitored for all sites in one overview. Lanterns without a serial interface are supervised through PowerMonitor.
Do the aids to navigation suit Nordic conditions and approvals?
The equipment is selected for ice, salt spray and low winter light, and the navigation buoys carry a 7 year warranty that includes colour fastness. Approval requirements depend on the authority and the site, so they are confirmed for each project before the equipment is specified.
