How it works

From the plan to the
commissioned installation

The marking plan defines the optical and radar requirements. Site calculations establish mounting and power.

  1. 01

    Define requirements

The marking plan defines sector bearings, colours, nominal range and the racon identifier; the sector optics are selected.

  2. 02

    Specify structure

Light elevation, sight lines, equipment loads and ground conditions determine the mast and foundation.

  3. 03

    Calculate power

The energy calculation includes the light, racon and communications load, seasonal solar input and required autonomy.

  4. 04

    Install equipment

The foundation, mast, selected optic, racon and power equipment are installed with specified cabling and protection.

  5. 05

    Verify operation

Commissioning records alignment, racon response, power operation and supported Emiko signals.

Where it is used

Coastal station installation sites

Coastal authorities and harbour operators specifying replacement stations or new fixed aids to navigation.

  • 01

Replacement of a damaged or obsolete coastal station

  • 02

An island or headland with limited access to mains power

  • 03

A coastal route requiring an additional fixed navigation light

In service

Gjögur Lighthouse, Iceland

The Gjögur replacement project for the Iceland Road and Coastal Administration combines a 24 m mast, Sabik ODSL HI sector light and HEKLEO 2 XS racon. The published report records a range up to 14 NM and at least 96 hours of UPS backup for the defined load, with a 360 Ah battery bank and solar backup.

Good to know

Before the
quotation

What is required for a station quotation?

The enquiry requires a chart, site coordinates, marking plan, required nominal range, mounting elevation and available power. Ground conditions, access, required autonomy and monitoring functions should be included.

Can the station operate without mains power?

Solar and battery supply can be specified after a site energy calculation. Required autonomy depends on the connected load and seasonal charging conditions. The Gjögur backup figure applies to that project's defined load.

Which functions are available in Emiko?

NaviGuard provides the functions of the specified MBL/MF12 profile. PowerGuard reports its own supply status. No ODSL HI or racon telemetry is assumed; a documented interface and acceptance test are required before adding either.
