Navigation buoys

Floating aids to navigation for channels and coastal waters

Navigation buoys provide physical marking of channels, hazards and designated areas. Vikingegaarden specifies the buoy body, ballast, mooring and fitted equipment from the marking plan and site conditions; the listed FLC, BEA and spar configurations are confirmed for each quotation.

  • IALA colour incorporated in the hull material
  • Buoy, ballast and mooring specified together

Key features

Application and selection criteria

The buoy colour, shape and topmark are selected for the required marking function. Lateral marks follow the applicable region and direction of buoyage in the IALA Maritime Buoyage System.

Physical Buoys FLC navigation buoy and a small work boat crossing a wide Danish harbor approach.

Installation geometry

Buoy size, ballast and mooring are selected from water depth, exposure and the required position. Deployment planning includes the available vessel, lifting equipment and maintenance access; mass and buoyancy data are confirmed for the selected configuration.

Power and autonomy

The buoy body requires no electrical supply. Any fitted lantern or monitoring equipment has a separate energy budget, including its operating character, communication load and required autonomy.

Equipment documentation

The supplied configuration is identified in the project documentation. Published figures and any applicable certificates are checked against the specified operating conditions.

Monitoring interfaces

Emiko monitoring is specified where supported by the equipment. Available signals, communications and alarm handling are confirmed before supply.

Commissioning record

Commissioning records the installed equipment, settings and functional checks. The handover documentation defines the inspection and maintenance requirements.

Site conditions

Selection accounts for the mounting arrangement, exposure and access for servicing. Site data forms part of the agreed specification.

Technical questions

Specification questions

What determines the installation configuration?

Buoy size, ballast and mooring are selected from water depth, exposure and the required position. Deployment planning includes the available vessel, lifting equipment and maintenance access; mass and buoyancy data are confirmed for the selected configuration.

How is the power budget specified?

The buoy body requires no electrical supply. Any fitted lantern or monitoring equipment has a separate energy budget, including its operating character, communication load and required autonomy.

Which approval documents are supplied?

Documentation is confirmed for the selected equipment and application. Vikingegaarden identifies the available manufacturer documents and the requirements stated by the responsible authority.

What is required for a quotation?

The enquiry should include the marking plan, site coordinates, required performance, available power and mounting details. Monitoring, access and maintenance requirements should also be stated.
