Vikingegaarden takes over Cumulus weather stations

Published Updated 3 min read

Vikingegaarden A/S announced the takeover of Cumulus A/S weather stations, effective 1 September. The change of ownership followed cooperation between the two companies and combined professional weather observation with Vikingegaarden's monitoring software.

Weather stations for ports and industry

Cumulus and Vikingegaarden had known each other for many years and had worked together on projects. The announcement identified complementary products and customer bases, with weather stations relevant to industry and Danish ports already served by Vikingegaarden.

Cumulus supplied professional weather stations with configurable sensors. Its director, meteorologist Torben Klausen, brought experience in weather observation and the collection and analysis of weather data.

Software and customer continuity

At the time, Vikingegaarden's monitoring system was called ProPower. The web and IoT platform collected electricity, water, light and heat consumption data and supported monitoring of maritime markings, including buoys.

The announcement stated that Cumulus would continue its weather-station work and that Torben Klausen would remain responsible for it as Senior Consultant and Expert within Vikingegaarden.

Plans announced with the takeover

  • Systems and production: increase capacity, streamline production and update technology where required.
  • Data handling and hosting: transfer data handling and hosting to ProPower over the following 12 months, with security, backup and uptime identified as priorities.
  • Combined project scope: bring weather stations and monitoring technology into broader customer projects, including special configurations.
  • Customer support: add organizational resources and reduce Torben Klausen's administrative workload.

These were plans stated in the takeover announcement, rather than a record of their later completion.

Comments from the announcement

"The combination of the weather stations from Cumulus A/S and Vikingegaarden's ProPower IoT platform provides a really powerful tool for the best display of weather data, for ports and waters as well as for agriculture and industry. With high quality weather stations and reliable data, the customer gets the best opportunities to judge upcoming weather conditions and plan the working day and resources accordingly, which will ultimately give the customer savings and better results. We are very excited to welcome Cumulus A/S into the Vikingegaarden family," says Ulrik Østergaard, CEO of Vikingegaarden A/S.

"I am very much looking forward to continuing my work with the Cumulus A/S weather stations, now in a different and larger setting under Vikingegaarden A/S, where more challenging and complex projects will be possible. It will be exciting and fun," says Torben Klausen, director of Cumulus A/S.
