Case study · Reykjavík Harbor, Iceland
Self-service power and water at Reykjavík Harbor
Reykjavík Harbor moved routine electricity and water service from phone calls, manual activation and paper records to connected pedestals and customer self-service in Emiko.
Objectives
- Eliminate manual meter readings
- Provide self-service access to electricity and water
- Enhance real-time monitoring and invoicing
- Reduce staff workload and response times
The challenge
Before the project
Utility delivery depended on people being physically present, for every hookup and every reading.
- Customers had to call the harbor to request water or electricity.
- Staff visited each boat to read analog meters and manually start the services.
- Consumption was tracked on paper and invoices were calculated by hand.
- Departures were often delayed by lengthy confirmation procedures.
- Hoses with built-in meters proved unreliable and expensive.
The solution
A fully digital harbor experience
Vikingegaarden installed Marineium, MarinePro and MarineMax service pedestals, all integrated with the Emiko platform.
- Self-service instructions at the pedestals, familiar as a fuel station
- Real-time meter logging via Emiko
- Power and water activation through the mobile app
- Cloud-based data management
- App-based consumption monitoring and invoicing
The results
- No on-site staff needed for regular vessels
- Accurate, real-time meter data
- Customers activate services and monitor usage directly
- Faster and more transparent departure process
- Operational data stored and accessible in the cloud
- Staff time freed for other operational priorities
- Less human error in consumption tracking and billing
- A modern, self-guided customer experience
“What we appreciate most is the continuous improvement. Every update brings greater clarity and control, and we feel confident that this solution is built for the long term, not just for Reykjavík, but for harbors across Iceland.”
