Dynamic LED marine lanterns: the 2024 announcement

Vikingegaarden’s May 2024 announcement presented Dynamic LED marine lanterns with programmable colors, Bluetooth operation and optional LTE-M monitoring. This article records the functions and optical figures described at that time.
Programmable color configurations
The announced lanterns offered Red/Green/White or Red/Green/Yellow configurations. Programmable colors allowed a compatible unit to serve different signaling roles, subject to the selected configuration.
Control and position information
Bluetooth operation was described alongside optional LTE-M monitoring and built-in GNSS position tracking. Communication and monitoring requirements are confirmed for the lantern and installation selected for a new project.
Optical figures reported in the announcement
The original article reported the following peak-intensity changes compared with the preceding generation:
- Red: from 120 cd to 370 cd
- Green: from 160 cd to 600 cd
- Yellow: from 120 cd to 370 cd
- White: from 240 cd to 600 cd
It also quoted a range of approximately 8 nautical miles. These are figures from the 2024 announcement, not a specification for every lantern in the current range.
Selecting a lantern for a Nordic navigation mark
For a new installation, confirm the model’s photometric data, light character, required range, power supply, environmental suitability and monitoring options.
