Harbor Energy Management: Using Meter Data

Harbor energy management begins with a usable baseline. Meter records show where and when electricity, heat or water is consumed, allowing an operator to compare facilities, investigate changes and evaluate an intervention.

Useful outputs from connected metering

consumption by meter, facility or reporting period
consumption patterns and unusual changes
evidence for operational follow-up
approved records for billing where the meter and setup support it

Data does not reduce consumption by itself. Savings require an operational or technical change and should be verified against a suitable baseline while accounting for production, weather or occupancy where relevant.

Relation to energy-management systems

ISO 50001 describes a management cycle for energy policy, objectives, measurement and continual improvement. Connected meters can supply part of the evidence, but software alone does not establish certification or compliance.

Compare the complete metering installation

A wireless reporting connection does not remove the local meter and load wiring. Compare cable routes, meter interfaces, mobile or WiFi coverage, commissioning and service requirements for the actual site. The available material does not establish a verified installation-saving percentage for a defined project.
